Exciting New Connors Podcast
Every day, Americans are bombarded with messages meant to evoke outrage, anger, disgust, and/or indignation. It’s exhausting.
In addition to our flagship Utterly Moderate Podcast, the Connors Forum is excited to announce a second podcast exploring this topic: Outrage Overload with host David Beckemeyer.
On each episode, David and his guests explore this outrage industry—what incentivizes it, how it impacts us, and what might be done about it.
Episode One
In 2020, a team of prominent researchers across six disciplines got together to look at the collective knowledge about the state of polarization in America. Their work resulted in a paper published in Science magazine that ran around the time of the 2020 presidential election. They introduced a new term to describe our polarization — “political sectarianism” — which goes beyond ideological division to something based on moral superiority and hatred.
Peter Ditto, a professor of psychological science at University of California, Irvine, is one of the study’s authors. This episode dives into Ditto’s research and what it teaches us about our current political climate.
